I have to do the same thing for one of my papers. I'm doing change in weather cause by human activity. Most people don't know that changes in human activity (how much we go outside, drive cars, etc.) cuases more rain or changes in temperature. Interesting stuff. Just a suggestion.

Ever read the book "A Civil Action?" It's a great true story about a town afflicted by a tainted water supply from in industrial plant upstream. That might be a place to get started. There was a movie made from the book in 1998 as well if you want to check it out.

Deforestation, acid rains, polar bear extinction... Have you heard of the ocean of plastic? Plastic, we use way too much of it and as you know, it's not biodegradable at all. In fact it stays forever. So The North Pacific Trash Vortex - Researchers have discovered a Texas-sized area of (mostly plastic) rubbish floating in the Pacific Ocean. I think this is a pretty interesting subject to write about.
