What are some problems with the United States federal government's environmental policies?

In the US enviornmental polices are based more on how much money is funneled to election campaigns than actual science.

This results in some wierd situations. One example is the Desert Tortise. This tortise is going extinct because a predator (the Desert Raven) evolved that specalizes in eating it.

As a result the measures we take to protect the tortise - are driving the raven to extinction. What are some problems with the United States federal government's environmental policies? They dont respect private property rights. They generalize to much. They only can account for the lowest denominator. They fail to see that thier polices are the cause of some of the environmental issues. They dont see the problems on a individual basis they only generalize.
