What is the most serious environmental problem associated with thermonuclear energy generation?

it is radioactive waste, but what the radioactive waste is producing is thermal pollution.

If the libtards would ever quit litigating against the government this waste could be stored in the Yucca Mountain Depository. Instead it's sitting in mostly unsecured surface cooling ponds all over the country. What is the most serious environmental problem associated with thermonuclear energy generation?long term, 100 years+, it is radioactive waste

the problem with building them now is the huge amounts of concrete and materials used to shield the reactor, contributing to CO2 and resource extraction problems.

What are the environmental problems or human activities which r degrading kailashnath?

ways to protect any monument, need to protect them, how are they getting destroyed??What are the environmental problems or human activities which r degrading kailashnath?Simple!

Its our increasing population, and our ever increasing pollution of CO2 in the air that is causing the Global Warming, and thats why North and South Poles Ice bergs are melting, and same thing is happening with Kailashnath.

And the only solution is Public Awareness, less population, clean air energy and transportation technologies, more trees and less Industrialization.

The question remains, How can we achieve this? What will you do as your part?

I would say global warming is the biggest problem our world is facing. Here's some info from http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/glob鈥?/a>

The greenhouse effect is unquestionably real and helps to regulate the temperature of our planet. It is essential for life on Earth and is one of Earth's natural processes. It is the result of heat absorption by certain gases in the atmosphere (called greenhouse gases because they effectively 'trap' heat in the lower atmosphere) and re-radiation downward of some of that heat. Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas, followed by carbon dioxide and other trace gases. Without a natural greenhouse effect, the temperature of the Earth would be about zero degrees F (-18掳C) instead of its present 57掳F (14掳C). So, the concern is not with the fact that we have a greenhouse effect, but whether human activities are leading to an enhancement of the greenhouse effect.

Top of Page Are greenhouse gases increasing?

Human activity has been increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (mostly carbon dioxide from combustion of coal, oil, and gas; plus a few other trace gases). There is no scientific debate on this point. Pre-industrial levels of carbon dioxide (prior to the start of the Industrial Revolution) were about 280 parts per million by volume (ppmv), and current levels are about 370 ppmv. The concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere today, has not been exceeded in the last 420,000 years, and likely not in the last 20 million years. According to the IPCC Special Report on Emission Scenarios (SRES), by the end of the 21st century, we could expect to see carbon dioxide concentrations of anywhere from 490 to 1260 ppm (75-350% above the pre-industrial concentration). What are various environmental problems our world is facing?Major and serious problem is Global warming. What are various environmental problems our world is facing?

    First the old ones:

Acid Rain - This one seems to have disappeared from the vogue over the decades. It was an early 70's issue and the polluters causing it have largely cleaned up their act.

Love Canal, Lake Erie, Sydney Tar Ponds - more classics from yesterday. Not all problems are fixed, but progress has been made.

Global Warming - This one has been the flavor of the month for years now, since before The Day After Tomorrow in 2004, but has really taken the front seat since then. Thanks Al.

Ozone Depletion - The issue came up in the 80's and the reality is now.

Call it a very general overview. The monthly articles available at this page http://www.stuffintheair.com/earth-scien鈥?/a> could help keep you up to date.

Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady?

The rituals of many religions require animal sacrifice or "bali".Unlike Jains and buddhists, Hindus, christians and muslims do eat flesh. Is it true that obsolete religious practices are destroying the environment? Or does religion help to conserve the nature? Do attach references to your answers as much as possible. Also quote the holy books (Veda, Purana, quran etc) and scriptures to substantiate your response.

Thanks for your time.Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady? The christian bible clearly states that the original diet of mankind was fruits and grains. After sin entered the world God allowed man to consumed the flesh of animals (those that were cleaned) as their constitution was altered (both of man and beast). Nevertheless, now that we are close to the kingdom of heaven, we are encouraged to return to our original diet, mainly because of the corrupt condition of animals due to disease and man′s chemical food they give to them. But diet is not the only thing causing corruption upon the world, the poor spiritual condition of man and his desires for power and riches is the root of all evil.

I do not agree with animal sacrifice. But, the eating of animals is another story, it helps to regulate over-population, over-population creates disease by nature. What creates environment destruction, greed of money, war, hiding technology and or using it detrimental to moving forward for the purpose of preservation. Scriptures ? It says to mind your own concerning meat eaters or vegetarians, neither is wrong. As far as spiritual goes, before the Europeans landed on this Continent, wildlife flourished in bounty, it was well regulated by the Native Americans, they were great stewards of nature. As far as quoting scriptures, I just did.Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady?Only Christianity and Judaism cite animal sacrifice as pleasing to their respective 'gods'. In fact the bible states many times that the smell of burning flesh is pleasing to 'god'. LHP religions (with the exception of voodoo in Africa) advocate harmony with nature and caring for animals.

religion is the biggest lie on the face of this earth. all of it is man-made ideologies and predetermined patterns of behavior that helps scare sad, lonely people to lock onto nonsense so they feel like they're apart of something.Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady?I have no environmental problems in my butchery, The potted plants are flowering nicely, and I have pest control measures in place. The animals have sacrificed their lives accordingly.Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady?
Being a vegan atheist for moral and green reasons, I could easily say yes.

But I wont, I say for this that it is the people.Does religion aggravate environmental problems or alleviates the malady?
People are nasty animals. Religion neither caused nor can cure that.
NO AND ANYBODY CAN COOK ANIMALS FOR FOOD and we love trees..

Face it, all the environtmental problems are CAUSED by us.What are some environmental problems brought by population?
if it is over-population, more people will be needing stuff, of course, we all know where it comes from, the they just throw the stuff anywhere, dirtying the citiesWhat are some environmental problems brought by population? Are you asking about human overpopulation?

It is fashionable to blame all the environmental ills of modern society on human overpopulation, but the truth is that humans, even in tiny numbers can have profound effects on their environments. Even so called primitive peoples do NOT live "in harmony with nature" -- that is just a utopian myth. History is full of examples of small, primitive societies causing environmental devastation.

Humans whereever they are and in whatever numbers cause environmental changes through agriculture, pollution of land and water, industrialization, destruction of habitat and wildlife, etc. These issues are made worse by larger numbers of humans but they are not caused by larger numbers per se.What are some environmental problems brought by population?
actually there is no environmental problem caused by population...it will only affects our environment if population will be accompanied by the adj. "over"..there will be water, soil, noise, and whatever pollution we have today...

over population "may" increase the intensity of green house effect (just an opinion)... because i believe that more people, means more mind, means more innovation that could ruin our environment. hope this helps.

    Can pesticides cause environmental problems?

Many of the problems caused by pesticides are environmental. "Pesticides" is a generic term that refers to herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, termiticides, etc etc...Human health aspects are probably looked at the most, and environmental aspects the least.

Specific environmental problems can include bioaccumulation (meaning they are biomagnified up the food chain), and non-target toxicity (killing fish, invertebrates that feed fish, killing beneficial insects that keep pests down, killing birds, killing algae that feed the food chain, etc.). They oftentimes have unlooked for effects such as DDT making the shells of birds very frail.

A strange way that pesticides can harm the environment is by the so-called "inert" ingredients that EPA doesn't even test for toxicity. The most famous (right now) case of that is a surfactant in Round-up (glyphosate) that harms frogs and all sorts of other non-target organisms). It's weird that we apply these poisons and don't realize that they don't just kill what we want them too....

Anywho, yes, pesticides *are* causing environmental problems and email me if you want more specifics. Can pesticides cause environmental problems?Yes indeed. Can pesticides cause environmental problems?Yes. Pesticides can contaminate soil and water and many of them carry such warnings on their labels. In agricultural areas in New York State and around the country, drinking water wells have been closed due to pesticide contamination of groundwater. When it rains, pesticides are carried by storm drains into streams and rivers, where they can kill small plants and animals that fish depend on for food. Pesticides can also poison fish and wildlife. As discussed above, diazinon has killed ducks, geese and other water fowl. There is substantial evidence that it also has killed song-birds.Can pesticides cause environmental problems?Yes they can. That's why they're controlled and dangerous.
