Environmental problems in space due to space trash/debris/junk?

I am attempting to write a sci fi book where the solar system is being threatened by our amount of space trash. Is it possible that space trash would have environmental effects like changing the conditions of other planets or something destructive like that? I assume that there really isn't anything like decomposition in the emptiness of space, so the junk probably wouldn't decompose and make harmful gases like methane does in landfills on Earth. I have been looking for a long time on this subject and I'm really not finding anything remotely related. (and I know that most of the space trash out there today is mostly metals, which wouldn't decompose, but in my book, they send normal everyday trash out). Any and all help is appreciated!!!Environmental problems in space due to space trash/debris/junk?It doesn't really seem like it could be practical to send trash into space. If space travel were cheap enough that that could be done, the trash could just as easily be sent to the sun, where it would not be a problem. Otherwise, it would either fall back to earth (and mostly burn up), or go into earth orbit, where it would be more of a problem for traveling in space than it would be as pollution.Environmental problems in space due to space trash/debris/junk?Suppose one day they decided to send nuclear waste into space instead of storing it on the ground. In that case, something extremely toxic like plutonium could contaminate the air with poisonous smoke if it came back down. And if it made it to the ground, it would render a area uninhabitable. This is one reason they generally don't send up plutonium on space flights.
