What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?

My professor's description of non-western is, "Africa, Asia, or indigenous peoples in the Americas, Australia and the Pacific Islands (those whose cultural roots are outside of Europe)."

I need to choose a non-western culture and describe it, identify an environmental problem that they have, their impacts on the environment that cause the problem, the problem's impacts on their culture, what they're doing about the problem and come up with a potential solution and effects of that action.

I can do that myself, I just need help choosing a culture (indigenous or ethnic group) and a problem. What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?AIDS in Africa. Tsunami in Japan. Earthquake in Haiti. What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?
Your professor is an idiot because the Americas are in the western hemisphere, the indigenous people of the Americas are westerners.

If he meant a non European derived culture the you can choose China. What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?I know China has huge problem with Air Pollution since they don't have many ordinances with factories.

West becomes an extremely relative term living on a (near) spherical planet, but I'd say one of the best examples is pollution in China. What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?Mexico, China, India, Japan, Spain, Ecuador, Spain, and North Korea. What are some non "western" cultures with environmental problems?
