The French are very environmentally conscious. Other than a small degree of industrial pollution in certain areas and some silage products accidentally seeping into rivers, the air is clean and so are streams and waterways. Petrol and diesel harmful emissions in vehicles are strictly monitored. A large part of electricity is produced by water power through dams, or by atomic power and there is no longer a lot of air pollution by coal. There used to be open tips disfiguring the landscape but more and more incinerators have been built and these have been designed to be eco friendly. Recycling to a certain extent has always existed: bottles were taken back by supermarkets as far back as thirty years ago for instance, and now there are collection points everywhere. The French prefer to buy quality goods to junk and therefore do not subscribe to the throw away culture like some other countries.
It is a known fact that cattle emit a considerable amount of methane and France is a country were many animals are bred for meat, and dairy products which are the most varied and the best in the world. So from that point of view you could say that they contribute to climate change, but on the other hand they keep their forests and plant trees which counter balances this effect. There are large forested areas all over France.
Serious ecological problems have arisen on coastlines due to foreign tankers sailing too close to coastlines and sinking when they hit rocks, or by ships cleaning their engines and throwing their oil overboard, particularly in Brittany. The Mediterranean coast is enclosed and is dirtier than the Atlantic.
The dis-figuration of the landscape is essentially caused by huge pylons carrying electricity over long distances and the need for water towers to distribute water from high places to lower ones but latter are designed or disguised so as to be less conspicuous.
This only a brief overlook but on the whole France has relatively few environmental problems compared to many other countries. What are the main environmental problems in france?France have few environmental problems. Of course we are a developped agricultural and industrial country,so we have the traditionnal troubles due to these activity.
The situation is better than in most countries, it is why France is still so attractive for tourists and visitors.
On my own "point de vue" the problem is in the mind of to many french people who think that every things goes wrong! What are the main environmental problems in france?First one would be the bad state of the rivers that are polluted.
The vanishing of humid areas is another problem and the loss of biodiversity.
Now France is one of the top producer of radioactive waste!
Since 40 years we have been investing only in Nuclear and not in renewable energy.
The houses and building are not isolated properly, thus a lot of pollution due to heating.
We keep on building more roads then investing in public transports, and in ship canals (we could have lots of transports done by ship, instead of trucks). What are the main environmental problems in france?@Korin: when adding a link, make sure that we get somewhere! thank you ou merci comme tu veux. What are the main environmental problems in france?
