Coal is contaminated with Mercury, radioactive Uranium and Thorium.
Mercury, Uranium and Thorium go up the smokestack and pollute the surrounding area.
Mercury, Uranium and Thorium are also concentrated in the ash, which is dumped on the ground in huge piles.
The dust from the ash blows and contaminates the surrounding area with Mercury, Uranium and Thorium.
In the United States I regularly write and call both Federal and State politicians about this problem.
If I can even get them to reply they often ask me why I am the only person talking to them about this.
They often tell me that in their opinion if this was really such a problem the would be contacted by thousands of people, not just me.
Therefore I recommend that you contact as many people as you possibly can and encourage them to write to their Federal and State legislators about this problem so that it is not just me that is contacting them. How would you fix or address an environmental challenge?I would feign concern by asking questions on Yahoo! If governments where serious about, reducing energy demands and usage ..etc.
They would increase Taxes on electric and gases, also consumers realy need to cut back on their use of - Spin dryers, Large freezers etc.
