What problems are there in shanty towns?Shanty Towns are built in undesirable areas, this is because space in the actual city is under demand and the land is expensive. Often, migrants do not have a lot of money so they are forced to build their own temporarily housing. The undesirable areas are named 'undesirable' a reason: They are unsafe, problems occur through this factor include:

1. Some shanty towns in Brazil (favelas), are built on very steep hills, it is manageable. And if you go see it now you would not see the mountain at all; just lots and lots of poor houses. On these steep hills, it is very unsafe; landslides often occur and destroy thousands of homes and kills lots of people.

2. Some shanty towns in Kenya are built on very flat land, in the bottom of a valley. It is often flooded throughout the year and the excess waste and human technology that was flooded (e.g. metals, wooden boards, waterbottles, plastic toys) causes further problems elsewhere and cause havoc in nature.

Other problems include:

3. Different parts of cities have different Shanty Towns, different shanty towns have different habitants. Often, there are turf war amongst the different gangs of the shanty towns. People are often shot dead in these areas and causes severe damage to city popularity and reputation.

4. Poverty and Unemployment - The people who lives in these areas are jobless, they are unemployed and live in poverty, it is up to the government to improve these areas and they causes headaches to the government as unemployment rates gets higher, people get desperate, they start from pick-pockets, then muggers, then rapists, then murderers, until they stumble upon the final sin, they deal and sell drugs.

Anyway, these are just a couple of what I can think of. Hope this helps XD ^_^What problems are there in shanty towns?
OMG! Hey! Shanty towns means favela and not choupana or cabana how some people seem to have understood.

Shanty towns, girl, have several problems. The first one is the drugs traffic. The others are: violence, some of them doesn't have sanitation, high level of diseases, poverty with some people living in BAD conditions. Unfortunately it really happens. But it doesn not apply in all of them, but most of them.
