Gold has many environmental problems such as the use of cyanide and mining destroying the habitats and redirecting water. But what are some solutions to this- if you have links to websites or know of any solutions yourself, please help! What are some environmental solutions for gold mining?I believe many of these environmental problems are exaggerated. Having stated that, there have been some bad mistakes in the past %26amp; these mistakes MUST be avoided in the future.
It isn't generally known that cyanide, though in the short term highly toxic, readily and rapidly breaks down to harmless chemicals. Having said that certain countries refuse cyanide to be used in their national gold mining operations %26amp; other solvents such as sodium thiosulphate plus EDTA are used instead. Such things are at an early stage of experimentation but might end up being practical.
Abandoned open pits can be turned into fish farms or into leisure facilities for water sports.
Alternatively stripped out rock %26amp; soil can be stored separately %26amp; then put back into the hole that had been created. Once this is done, farming can be introduced into areas that would otherwise be ugly barren rock cover.
