How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?

http://apnews.excite.com/article/2007102鈥?/a>How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?People already take these problems about 10,000 times more seriously than they did 50 years ago. You just want them to take them millions of times, infinitely many times, more seriously. How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?
Actually I don't take it very seriously because the science is predicting rather mild effects (less than 1 Meter sea level rise in 100 years). The scientific cure (giving up 90% of coal and oil use withing 50 years) is worse than the problem.

How much more? I would take any fact, FACT... Not Gore propaganda...How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?People with real knowledge do take environmental problems seriously. Global warming is not a real environmental concern.

I am talking about scientists who do not agree with the global warming hysteria being used for political reasons.

I am aquainted with a meteorologist with the National Weather Service who strongly disagrees with the global warming emergency that we are so consumed with.
Jello definitely has the right idea. I would add that in the 70's these same "experts" were sure we were entering another ice age. What happened with that?

None of this by the way ties in even remotely with American national defense. I am proud of our fighting men and women who assure us that if things are going to go "boom", it is there and not on American soil. How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?
Many people have selected careers based on the fact they want to be part of the solution. They work diligently doing field work, research, education, and pretty much whatever it takes to get the word out to the public-at-large.

And like Bob said, there are many distractions right now, in particular the war in Iraq. Unfortunately people feel they can compartmentalize the issue, and environmental issues often take a back seat, when in fact those issues affect and direct everything else!

And then there's the fact that many people just can't or won't deal with being bombarded by all the information, and the media tends to go for photo ops and sound bites, which doesn't help matters any.

All of that said, I think people are better informed overall, and the fracas over climate change will begin to fade away as people are able to latch onto solutions being implemented by their country and international treaties.
I'm betting that a few years from now the Sun will start to cool off and the climate will cool down naturally on it's own.

Today鈥檚 global warming scare is no different than the Y2K scare, (remember airplanes would fall out of the sky) killer bees, avian flu, SARS, and thousands of past doom and gloom, end of the Earth predictions that never happened.

In 4 or 5 years no one will remember global warming, and everyone will deny they thought it was a threat. How much more information and how many more years till people take environmental problems seriously?
I agree with Jello. In a few years, there will be a new horrifying threat to the planet that will be overblown.
They do.

But in the US we have a lot of distractions going on, like a very stupid war, and a Presidential election. That tends to divert people's attention some.

I love Mr Jellos analogy to Y2K. Very apt. That was a very real problem that took years, thousands of people's hard work, and lots of money to fix. The only issue was they didn't realize what a good job they'd done.
