Any other college students having trouble finding part time jobs this summer?

So I live in Michigan (Which is an economic hellhole right now) and I've applied to all these places:

Gamestop (x3)

Kroger (x2)

Food Town

McDonalds

Burger King

Wendys

Subway

Little Ceasars (Went back in a 2nd time, and said they'd call back but didn't)

K-Mart (Applied for an OPEN position (they had like 3), said they'd call back but didn't)

Tim Horton's

A Local Restaurant

Argh. I feel angry right now. I've attached a resume to my apps and have gone back in a 2nd time to some of these places, and I'm trying to get as many places as I can before the high schoolers in my area get out of school. I have a 3.9 GPA and I am more qualified than most people that are applying. They definitely have to be discriminating against college students right now and giving the job to older people. Are any other students having trouble finding a part time job this summer? At this point, I will keep trying, but don't give a crap if I find one anymore bc I know that alot of people are going through the same thing I am. Share your stories lolAny other college students having trouble finding part time jobs this summer?
I know your pain. I was in your situation 2 times as bad a couple years ago. I went insane job searching during my first semester in college. I was applying everywhere supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, pet supply shops, convenient stores, department stores, mall shops, whatever you named it, I applied at.

You said you live in Michigan, so you know about our economy. Theres thousands out there job searching. Try Wal*Mart, they treat job applicants better than supermarkets and Petsmart does. Basically employers don't care who they hire esp. when it comes to Petsmart, supermarkets, and restaurants. It took someone 2 years to hire me, and I give any employer who rejected me the middle finger. If they can't give you a chance, they don't deserve respect from you. But they do have a right to reject job applicants unfortunetly.

Make sure you follow-up on your applications 4 days to a week later, if you don't get a reply. If they say they don't want to interview you because you don't have experience, ask them "how can I gain experience if no one will hire me?" See what they say. Just keep trying.

Why are you applying at only restaurants? Try some clothing stores or work at a local park as a camp counselor. Or a clerical position. I am applying to EVERYTHING from clerical to club model/promoter. EVERYTHING.
McDonalds didnt hire you hahaha you should quit nowAny other college students having trouble finding part time jobs this summer?
What part of michigan? I grew up in Oakland County in Clarkston area try at National coney island they are good to work for. Try Dunhams sporting good they are good too never worked for them but they are good. Krogers probably isnt hiring cuz they hired all of us from Farmer Jacks when that shut down. I worked at Farmer Jacks which was a great job till they shut down and moved everyone to Krogers. Beth he isnt applying to just restuarants food town is a grocery store along with Krogers which btw right now is the Best industry to be in
The absolute best job you can have is your OWN job, that is, to be self employed. Everybody goes to school to get a degree, in hopes to being able to land that dream job.. But that job, you are still working for somebody else, making them even more money then what they are paying you! (average payroll for companies is 10% of profits) So imagine if you are making $15/hr, you are probably making them over $150/hr in profits...

The solution? Form your own small business, preferably a service type, instead of a goods/products type, so that you don't have to store any sort of inventory. You can do this online, and have an online service type of business, to keep costs to a super low, and do this part time while you are in school. Visit Legalzoom form a new business.

Or, you can visit my job site, which is an online service type of deal, and find a job :)Any other college students having trouble finding part time jobs this summer?
yeah i know what you mean. i was looking at a job posting for Wendy's and it said you need 1-2 years of experience in the food industry, for example. this is ludicrous because...you;re either handling cash..or youre putting a hamburger together! what do i need a PhD to put a freggin sandwich together? and i'm a university student...what..my degrees in progress not doing it for the food industry? what is this?

last Wednesday i got hired at a children's clothing store...the manager told me she'd call me back by friday to tell me when i should come in for orientation....long story short..i called HER on Monday because i hadn't heard from her all weekend...and she UNHIRED me! WTF?!
