The top problem is human awarness of its impact on the environment. On the other hand, we're all a little naive to think that nature wont find a way to correct what we've done. Global warming may very well lead to cooling after nature adjusts the number of humans on earth.

What in the world does that mean? Almost all gas vehicles today have catalytic converters and other emissions regulating equipment. They aren't perfect, but automakers do try to meet or exceed gov't standards.
But you can actually see the public's preference on the sale. Japanese car companies is owning American cars because they are more fuel efficient and fuel economic, like Toyota and Honda. Car manufactures such as Ford and GM do produce low fuel economic and high emission viehcle.
High fuel costs and pollution are driving public away from large trucks or vans. Instead, they are driving smaller viehcles.
According to you, cars requires 300% fuel and release 300% pollution are most likely to be huge trucks or ferraris. What they can do to save the environment is to change their engines to cleaner and more fuel efficient engines instead of bad-smelled engine.
I dun't know much about USA, but Canadian government has passed a law that indicate all trucks MUST switch their engines to cleaner ones in order for them to drive. Illegal drivers will receive $3000-$5000 CAD fine.

And a "logical" justification to it e.g. guns help protect. Interestingly enough, F1 cars happen to be some of the most expensive cars in the world, yet the most efficient. Along with X Prize purses for space and genomics, Diamandis said Friday that the Foundation is working on prizes in the automotive arena, nanotechnology and education.
For the automotive prize, the focus is on breakthroughs in areas like miles per gallon and manufacturing.

What are some solutions to the environmental problems in India, China, and Mexico?
I'm working on a White Paper for school (blegh) and we need to have a few paragraphs covering a proposed solution to help solve the world issue we chose in 3 regions/countries. I chose India, China, and Mexico and my issue is the environment. Specifically I focused on garbage control, air pollution, and water pollution (rivers). I don't really have any ideas for solutions and I want my solution to be solid and have good evidence to back it up, not just some opinion of mine that isn't possible in the real world ;).
Any ideas? I know there won't be a solution to completely solve all of our environment problems, but just some ideas would be awesome.

Recycling metals and glass have less impact than using virgin materials. Paper has higher transportation impacts, but that can be changed by increasing the number of paper plants that recycle paper. Plastics have the worst impact, but that is true of manufacturing plastics too. I avoid plastics in all forms as much as possible. There is a reason China produces so much of the plastic items we use in the US, it would cost a fortune to produce plastics under US EPA guidelines, in China they can use all the toxic chemicals and dispose fo the waste in a cheaper way, but it is at a great cost to the long term health of their environment.What are the environmental problems for recycling? ?Currently the average recycling rate in the U.S. is at about 30%. We should be able to divert a lot more of our waste stream from landfills! If we recycled everything we could, we could increase our recycling rate to above 50%... and that would be fantastic.

Landfills sell their recylced materials to companies that re-process the material and make something new. But plastic for example, isn't really all that useful.
